Система организации хозяйства с целью производства товаров и услуг. Капитализм подразумевает существование частной собственности на средства производства. 18 SMITH, ADAM (1723-1790)
Адам Смит
Шотландский экономист, работы которого легли в основу классической экономической теории. В известном труде А. Смита «Исследование о природе и причинах богатства народов» (1776 г.) заложены основы учения о рынке. Смит подчеркивал, что рыночные отношения базируются на общественном разделении труда. Ученый считал, что « невидимая рука» рынка заставит предринимателей из личного материального интереса и стремления к прибыли производить товары и услуги, необходимые обществу. В условиях свободной конкуренции и при отсутствии государственного регулирования рынок способен так организовать экономическую деятельность, что повысится благосостояние всего общества. На рынках совершенной конкуренции производители стремятся продать как можно больше товаров, что ведет к снижению цен до уровня, позволяющего покрыть издержки производства и получить нормальную норму прибыли. Если на рынке ощущается дефицит некоторых товаров, потребители предлагают за них более высокие цены, что привлекает в отрасль новых производителей и способствует увеличению предложения этих товаров. Таким образом, в условиях рыночной системы предложение управляется спросом. Смит фактически описал новую экономическую систему, которая зарождалась в то время в западноевропейских странах. Однако, чтобы эта система работала, необходимы два условия: отсутствие государственного вмешательства и свобода конкуренции.
